COMPUTERS: I was in checking out IPads in Best Buy and asked about their warranty.  Their Extended warranty costs $100 and runs CONCURRENTLY with the manufacturer’s warranty.  It will fix anything.  WHAT A RIPOFF.  Get a Squaretrade warranty.  For less than half the price, you can get 3 year coverage.  COMMENTARY: I was sorry to see Andy Rooney pass.  I guess he knew something when he signed off last month.  Did anyone watch Sheli Manning lead that last minute drive against the Patriots?  How bad is the Pats defense?

LOJACK FOR LAPTOPS

You can hunt down a lost laptop the same way you track a missing smartphone.  Consider LoJack for Laptops (find.pcwhrold.com/72238), a subscription service that makes it easier for both you and law enforcement to find your laptop.  The service permits you to track the notebook’s location, lock it so that no one can access the data, remotely wipe the hard drive and other tasks.  LoJack requires a piece of software that you install on your computer.  Plans start at $40 per year.  SLEEPING HUMOR: The reason Santa is so jolly is that he knows where all the bad girls live.

People are always tempted to purchase discontinued tech stuff because it’s so cheap.  Usually the stuff is cheap because it’s being closed out, which means no more updates or support on the item.  So if buying discontinued products makes sense for you go for it.  ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH: The Texas Rangers pitchers on Saturday night.  16 Runs?  The Cowboys give up less points.  By the way, do you know why the Siamese twins moved to London?  So the other one could drive.

If you’re using a notebook with an external monitor you may want to close the lid. problem is that the notebook will probably go into hibernate or sleep mode.  To turn that off, go into CONTROL PANEL / POWER and select CLOSING THE LID DOES (In Windows 7 and Vista).   ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH: The Brewers pitching staff at the beginning of each game.  They should have taken some no-dose hours before each start.

Ink cartridge REFILLS are when used ink cartridges have ink re-inserted into it for reuse.  It can be a mess and many printers won’t read the cartridges correctly.  REMANUFACTURED cartridges are like ink cartridge knockoffs – newer cheaper versions of the original.  They tend to work better and have a lower failure rate.  ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH:  The Philadelphia Eagles from 2:30-4 on Sunday.  Up 20 points in the third quarter, they choked.  When will someone of authority in that organization realize what I said 6 years ago – Andy Reid must go!
